How to convert PA-Series NGFW to a Spare

This feature converts a PA-Series NGFW to a spare under the following limited conditions.

1. This feature is only available to Authorized Support Center (ASC) Partners based in Japan.
2. A PA-Series NGFW has been designated defective and is taken out of service using the following steps.
   1. ASC Partner uses Customer Support Portal to transfer NGFW subscriptions and licenses from the PA-Series NGFW to a compatible Spare.  For more information, review How to Transfer PA-Series Licenses to a Spare Device.
   2. ASC Partner analyzes the "defective" PA-Series NGFW in a lab, and realizes the NGFW is indeed not defective.
   3. ASC Partner uses the feature described in this KB Article to convert the PA-Series NGFW to a PA-Series Spare, which can later be used to replace a compatible PA-Series NGFW that is deemed defective.
       

Convert PA-Series NGFW previously considered "defective" to a PA-Series (Spare)

Use the following steps to convert a PA-Series NGFW previously considered defective (but now considered not to be defective) to a spare.  

1. To be able to perform these steps, you must be assigned ASC User role in the CSP account of your ASC Partner company. 

2. Note the SKU for the PA-Series NGFW that was previously considered defective is still a production SKU, not a spare SKU. 

3. Also, note its licenses were previously transferred to a compatible PA-Series spare.  Although, any temporary licenses (Auth Code beginning with 'E') were not transferred.  

4. To convert this PA-Series NGFW that is now known not to be defective to a spare, use Assets page filter or find the PA-Series NGFW. The NGFW will either have no licenses, or may have temporary licenses (with Auth Codes beginning with 'E').

5. Hover and click on Licenses & Subscriptions icon.

5. CSP displays Licenses & Subscriptions page.  Click Change to Spare button.
6. CSP displays a message indicating the SKU of the asset will change to a spare.  Click Agree and Submit button.

6. CSP displays a message indicating this PA-Series NGFW has been modified to a PA-Series spare.
