Created On 12/18/18 09:17 AM - Last Modified 07/29/24 10:01 AM

Objective

  • Migrate VM Panorama from EVAL to PRODUCTION
  • Migrate VM Panorama instance from one server/host  to another
  • Lost existing VM Panorama instance and need to build a new one
  • Getting an error message on VM Panorama: "Failed to install licenses. Model incompatible: feature model is PRA while the device model is PRA"

Procedure

Make sure that your Panorama has been registered to Customer Support portal and has Support license:

1.*How to register VM Panorama  (standalone)
*Provision Panorama serial number (using Software NGFW license)
2. How to activate Support auth code
3. In Panorama, perform the following steps:

Step 1:  Select Panorama > Setup > Management and edit the General Settings
Step 2:  Enter the Panorama Serial Number (included in the order fulfillment email)
Step 3:  Click OK

Panorama VM serial number

Step 4:  After performing the above steps, a License Retrieval must be performed within Panorama in order to generate the Device Management license. If the Panorama is not internet-connected or if the license retrieval fails to generate the Device Management license, you will be unable to manage devices until it is generated. To generate the device management license in either scenario, please follow the steps described in the below document.

Activate/Retrieve a Firewall Management License when the Panorama Virtual Appliance is not Internet-connected.

If you encounter issues during the above process, please reach out to Support via an Admin Support case.

Additional Information

Effective from PAN-OS  8.1: VM Panorama licenses are tied to UUID (universal unique identifier) of VM that is generated during the boot up of VM Panorama. If you are on PAN-OS 8.1 or above and change the VM instance,  Palo Alto Networks Support needs to change the UUID associated with the serial number of VM Panorama.
