How to Activate Authorization Codes (Auth Codes)

Symptom
The article describes how to activate auth (authorization) codes.

Environment
  • Any PAN-OS.
  • Palo Alto Firewall.


Resolution

You can activate authorization codes in Network Security or Devices.

To activate authorization codes in Network Security:

  1. Login to Customer Support Portal with the account which owns the asset. 
  2. Click on Assets > Network Security.

        3. Find the device, click on the Licenses icon for the device.

4. Click Activate License button, enter an Authorization Code, and click Agree and Submit.

To activate authorization codes in Devices:

  1. Login to Customer Support Portal with the account which owns the asset. 
  2. Click on Assets > Devices.
  3. Find the device, click on the pencil icon (in Actions column). 
  1. In the Pop up window, Select Activate Auth-Code. Enter the Authorization Code. Click the Agree and Submit button to accept the end user license agreement (EULA).

  1. In the Device License window,  select Activate Auth Code.
  2. Click Activate Trial License.
  3. Select the trial licenses to activate.
  4. Click on the Agree and Submit button to accept the EULA and activate the trials.
  5. The trial licenses are added to the license table.
  6. To  retrieve licenses on firewall, Login to the GUI and select  Device > Licenses > Retrieve license keys from license server

 

 


Additional Information
Note1: Renewal auth codes do not need to be activated. Upon completion of renewals, the auth code is automatically activated on the associated device.

Note4: If you receive the following error message:
"An unexpected error has occurred. Please contact support."
Make sure you are not pressing "enter" after you enter the auth code. This way the GUI will not do the pre check on the code. Clicking the Agree and Submit button will take the auth code and activate it.
