Steps to completely Uninstall and Reinstall Global protect application on windows and mac

Symptom


Global protect facing issues with connectivity, behavior or other basic issues while trying to connect.

Environment


  • GlobalProtect (GP) Client on Windows or Mac
  • Any GP version.


Cause


The complete installation is attempted in cases where some drivers or other related information is not updated correctly which may be causing connectivity or behavior issues on Global Protect.

Resolution


Steps to uninstall and reinstall Global protect on Windows hosts:
  1. Disable WMI services: run - services.msc - Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI) - stop the service.
  2. Delete the files under C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository
  3. Open Regedit
  4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software and HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software. Delete the Palo Alto Networks folder.
  5. Delete the same if the same folder is present in any other user under HKEY_USERS.
  6. Un-install GlobalProtect from Windows 'program and features'.
  7. Make sure that the virtual adapter is not present in the Network adapter settings.
  8. Reboot the machine.
  9. Reinstall GlobalProtect with admin privileges.
  10. Confirm that the WMI service is running.

Steps to uninstall and reinstall Global protect on Mac hosts:
  1. Uninstall Global Protect application from the user machine
  2. Delete the Palo Alto folder under /users/NUID/Library/Application Support/PaloAltoNetworks. If they do not have the access they will need to gain those permissions.
  3. Restart the machine.
  4. Reinstall GlobalProtect
