Symptom


Commit failing  fails with the error "Software has been downgraded, please reboot the device before committing the configuration"

Environment


  • PA-3050
  • PAN-OS 8.0.13
  • Downgrade to PAN-OS 8.0.0. No reboot has been done yet.
  • debug swm status command indicates the pending-change status.

Cause


As per the Design, PAN-OS  does not allow commit operation post downgrade until Reboot.

 


Resolution


  1. If the commit needs to be done prior a reboot, Re-install the running version, in this scenario 8.0.13.
  2. Without a reboot, perform the commit operation and it will be Successful.
       

      


Additional Information


The solution is applicable to other PAN-OS versions and Platforms.
