Changing license on Panorama VM

Symptom


  • Panorama VM instance needs to transition from an evaluation license to a fully featured production license.
 
Panorama-VM License
 
  • Navigate to Panorama > Setup > Management > General Settings and review the existing serial number
  • Check the new Panorama serial number on adminsite and replace it at the above path followed by a commit

Resolution


  1. To update serial number, navigate to Panorama > Setup > Management > General Settings and replace the old serial with the new one followed by a commit
  2. Then navigate to Panorama > Licenses and select “Retrieve license from license server” to apply the new feature
  3. For Panorama VM, serial number is not associated with CPUID and UUID prior to PAN-OS 8.1
  4. With PAN-OS 8.1 or later, Panorama VM licenses are tied to UUID of that instance which is generated during the boot up of VM.
