Symptom

How are Managed Devices Counted for Panorama Licensing?

Environment

  • Panorama

Resolution

  • Panorama counts the number of managed devices for licensing purposes.
  • Panorama counts the number of configured serial numbers even if they are inactive.
  • Hence it is very important to delete the inactive devices from Panorama so it can have room for Active legitimate devices.
  • When we exceed the count of devices based on license. Panorama does not accept any more connections for new devices
  • The number of virtual systems (vsys) enabled on each device is not counted. For example, a device with 1 vsys and a device with 5 vsys will both count as 1 device against the license.
  • A High Availability (HA) pair of managed devices will count as two separate devices.
