When using a Microsoft NLB (Network Load Balancing Manager) Cluster behind a Palo Alto Networks device, it is often necessary to add a static ARP entry for the MAC address of the clusters.

An indication that a manual ARP entry needs to be added is when the Palo Alto Networks firewall can reach each cluster member individually but not cluster itself.

  1. To find the MAC address of the Windows server
    • Click Start > Administrative Tools > Network Load Balancing Manager.

  1. Right Click on the cluster name > Cluster Properties.

  1. Click on the Cluster Parameters tab, this screen will give you the IP and Mac address, but the MAC address field is called Network Address.

  1. Add the ARP entry for the PAN interface that faces the cluster
