Do I need to remove Software Warranty / any trial license from the firewall before activating the purchased subscriptions

No. Software Warranty support is shipped with every firewall to provide access to OS updates during Grace period. As soon as you activate the purchased Support and/or feature licenses - they will overwrite the Software Warranty license.
Additional Information
At times after activating the purchased Support - Software Warranty is still present on the firewall.
Follow the below steps :
1. OPEN ADMIN CASE and request to remove Software Warranty from the firewall.
2. Once done : remove the expired license key file for Software Warranty from the firewall so it can fetch the Support : HOW TO DELETE EXPIRED OR TRIAL LICENSES
