Objective


How to troubleshoot system boot failure of Firewall?

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewall
  • PAN-OS 9.1.x and higher


Procedure


Things to check:
  1. Connect the console and check for any error messages. Refer hardware guide of the correct console connections.
  2. Troubleshoot and resolve the error message seen on console. Engage Support help if required.
  3. If no messages are seen on the console after power-reset, either the power supply or device is bad.
  4. Check the power supply LED status. Refer the hardware guide of the model for LED status.
  5. Check the Device status LEDs in the same hardware guide.
  6. Check if the Fans are operating fine.
  Things to try:
  1. Reseat the power supplies.
  2. Try booting from the other partition (sysroot 0/ sysroot1) from  maintenance mode.
  3. If the issue is after upgrade/reboot, Re-install/upgrade can be tried again from maintenance mode.
  4. FSCK check can help fix minor file corruption issue.
