How to Enter Maintenance Mode on the Palo Alto Networks Firewall

Maintenance mode in PAN-OS can be used to perform a number of administrative tasks, such as factory resetting devices or changing FIPS mode.

There are two ways to enter maintenance mode on a Palo Alto Networks device running PAN-OS:

1. Using the serial console (see: How to Factory Reset a Palo Alto firewall)
2. Using the CLI:
   > debug system maintenance-mode

NOTE: The device will reboot immediately into maintenance mode when the command is issued.
