Commit Failed when adding DHCP Relay "Can't get vr id(Module: dhcpd)"

Symptom


When adding a new DHCP relay and using commit operation, it may fail with the error message "Can't get vr id(Module: dhcpd)"
 
  • "show jobs id <number> command displays commit failure.

  • GUI operation indicating the same failure.
          Commit failure message
  • MS Log indicating the same failure.
mp ms.log  client dhcpd reported error: Can't get vr id(Module: dhcpd)
mp ms.log  client dhcpd reported Phase 1 FAILED
mp ms.log  client dhcpd reported error: config commit phase 1 aborted(Module: dhcpd)


Environment


  • PAN-OS 7.1 and above.
  • Palo Alto Firewall.


Cause


The interface configured in the DHCP relay did not have an assigned Virtual Router.

Resolution


  1. Note down the interface displayed in the commit failure. In the above Example it is interface ethernet 1/7.
  2. Go to GUI: Network > Interfaces> ethernet > choose the interface mention on DHCP relay and assign the associated Virtual Router to the interface by selecting the drop-down selection under Virtual Router.
  3. Commit the changes.
