Does BGP session need to re-establish after HA Failover?

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Supported PAN-OS
  • BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)
  • HA (High Availability)
  • Active/Passive 

Answer


  1. BGP does not need to re-establish in case of failover of a HA peer if Graceful restart is configured.
  2. Refer to "HA Active/Passive Best Practices" when configuring HA.
  3. The graceful restart must also be configured on the Peer Routers.
