Question

What is the maximum size of a Panorama Configuration file?

Environment

  • Any Panorama.
  • PAN-OS 8.1 and above.

Answer

Currently, 80MB is the maximum tested panorama configuration file size and we can certify that the Panorama will function normally with config size of less than 80MB.

If you exceed the 80MB size you will get a warning message: The current configuration is 80MB, which exceeds the supported limit of 80MB. We highly recommend that you reduce the configuration size to within 80MB.

GUI Warning message:

Additional Information

  • If the Config size exceeds 80MB it does not mean that Panorama will not work but it is recommended to try and keep config size smaller than 80MB by removing duplicate and unused objects, rules etc.
  • There is no hard limit for the config size, the warning can be ignored as long as the config size does not grow too much over 80MB.

Note: This is also applicable to any Palo Alto Firewall.
