Symptom

Global protect client on macOS prompts a pop-up window asking permission from the user when connecting to a gateway.

Split Tunneling

Environment
  • MacOSx 10.15 Catalina
  • GlobalProtect Client 5.1
  • GlobalProtect Client 5.0

Cause

If the firewall administrator has enabled domain and application based split-tunneling, then user will receive this pop-up, as Network Extensions are being used by the GlobalProtect client.

Resolution
  1. Network Extension does not require administrator privileges, non-admin users can allow the access themselves.
  2. Users must click "Allow" on the pop-up prompt. If User clicks "Don't Allow", domain and application-based split tunneling will not work and the user will be prompted again next time they authenticate to portal and gateway.
