Symptom

When trying to display NTP information using the "show ntp" command, an error message is seen and NTP data is not displayed.

Example:

> show ntp
Server error : An error occurred. See dagger.log for information.

Output in dagger.log using "less mp-log dagger.log" provides information similar to that displayed below.

Environment
  • Palo Alto Firewall
  • Any PAN-OS.
  • NTP configured.
Cause
Resolution

The logs indicate the name resolution for the NTP server is not correct. Ensure the DNS server is configured correctly, reachable, and able to resolve configured NTP servers.
Once this is done and the command is successful, it will show the NTP server status similar to the below output.

> show ntp

NTP state:
    NTP synched to ntp.nc.u-tokyo.ac.jp
    NTP server ntp.nict.jp connected: True
    NTP server ntp.nc.u-tokyo.ac.jp connected: True
