Symptom


  • Firewall reboots by itself
  • Core dump generated

    ERROR_LOGS
  • Kernel panics causing device restart

    LOG_SIGNATURES
  • Presence of kernel_panic_occured file
  • kernel.dmesg files
  • kernel.tar.gz core dump files


Environment


  • PAN-OS Firewalls, specifically PA-3400 and PA-1400 series firewalls.


Cause


  • A software bug PAN-265179 leading to Kernel Panics.


Resolution


1) Raise a TAC case to get confirmation from TAC if the reboot is due to the same issue
2) Share the TSF of the firewall alongwith the core files generated in the firewall


PREVENTIVE_MEASURES
Upgrade the firewall to a PAN-OS versions that includes the fix for the kernel panic issue, specifically any of the following releases: 10.2.14, 11.1.7, 11.1.8, 11.2.5, 11.2.8, 11.1.2-h16, 11.1.6-h1, 10.2.10-h13, 10.2.12-h5, 10.2.13-h3, 11.1.4-h13, 11.2.4-h6, 10.2.11-h14 and later releases.
