Frequent fan alarms being received for PA-5410 firewalls

Symptom
- Frequent "Chassis Master Alarm: Fans" is seen in the system logs
- Frequent "Alarm on Outlet fan of Fan unit" is seen in the system logs
- In the "
show system environmentals" cli command output, the RPM value for the fan is shown as below 1500 but above 1400
Environment
- PA-5410 firewalls
- PANOS versions:
- 10.2.x
- 11.1.x
- 11.2.x
Cause
The minimum RPM value of the fan unit is given as 1500 in the code for PA-5410 firewalls, but as per the vendor standard, 1400 should be the minimum RPM value. So whenever the RPM value goes below 1500 but stays above 1400 it throws a FAN alarm in the system logs.
Resolution
This issue has been fixed via PAN-287272 in the following PAN-OS versions, where the minimum RPM threshold is updated to 1400 as per the vendor standards:
- 11.1.11
- 11.2.8
- 12.1.2
Additional Information
It does not denote any fan fault or failure if the fan alarm triggers when the RPM value is 1400 or higher.
