Question
Why is the Developer Tools option blocked when the Browser Security Policy is not blocking them?
Environment
- Prisma Browser
- Prisma Browser Security policy
- Prisma Browser Access & Data Control policy
Answer
Even when the Browser Security Policy rule is not configured to block Developer tools, it can be blocked by enabling some features in the Access & Data Control rules like Webpage Data Masking, Webpage Watermarking and Typing Guard.
The following are the ways it can be blocked. The first one is the browser security rule.
- Browser Security rules: There is an option to specifically block DevTools under Browser Hardening scope
- Access & Data Control rules: There are some options under Data Leak Prevention scope that block Developer tools when they are enabled.
- Webpage Data Masking
- Webpage Watermarking
- Typing guard
Additional Information
For every configuration scope that will block Developer Tools, there will be a message in the UI with a NOTE alerting about DevTools being blocked when enabling the specific feature, as shown in the screenshot below.
