Symptom
OSPF fails to establish adjacency on Palo Alto Networks firewalls using the Advanced Routing Engine (ARE) when configured with the Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP) link type.
-
Broadcast link type: Adjacency forms successfully.
-
P2MP link type: Adjacency fails to reach a bidirectional state, even with static neighbors configured manually.
Environment
- PAN-OS 11.2
- OSPF Link Type: Point-to-Multipoint (P2MP)
- Routing Protocol Engine: Advanced Routing Engine
Cause
- The Advanced Routing Engine (ARE) utilizes an integrated routing architecture. At present, PAN-OS does not support OSPF P2MP Non-Broadcast link types.
- This is a recognized limitation in the Advanced Routing Engine schema.
Resolution
The recommended workaround is to utilize the broadcast link type.
