Symptom


  • GlobalProtect app on macOS devices get stuck at the “Connecting” stage, preventing users from establishing the tunnel after PAN-OS upgrade
  • Firewall side gpsvc.log displays following error message indicating an issue with device name below logs:

Environment


  • Next-Gen Firewalls 
  • PAN-OS 11.1.14,11.2.11,11.2.12,12.1.5
  • Supported GlobalProtect (GP) App versions
  • Mac-OS device
  • Apple and Android devices


Cause


  • Starting with PAN-OS 11.1.14,11.2.11,11.2.12,12.1.5 , the validation process for GlobalProtect (GP) connections has been updated. 
  • The Connections will now fail if device names contain spaces or special characters. 


Resolution


  1. Rename the device hostname by removing spaces and special characters (such as apostrophes).
  2. Reboot of the device.
  3. Permanent fix is to upgrade Panos to 12.1.812.2.211.1.1711.2.1313.1.011.1.1612.1.1112.1.7-h212.2.511.2.15
