Symptom


The customer wanted a copy of the cleaner tool for agent 8.8 and below



Environment


**Product_versions**
• Cortex XDR agent: 8.8 and below
• Cortex XDR agent: 8.7 and above


Cause

Resolution


You can locate the cleaner tool at the following directory:

 

Location: C:\Program Files\Palo Alto Networks\Cortex XDR Health Helper\XdrAgentCleaner
File name: XdrAgentCleaner.exe

 

Step 1. To use Agent cleaner, please copy the entire folder for the agent cleaner tool to another folder where you can execute it. Such as your desktop or C:\Temp
Step 2. Right-click XdrAgentCleaner.exe from the copied folder and then click "Run as administrator" from the context menu.
Step 3. Once the tool finished the uninstallation, then reboot the OS to complete the uninstallation.
Step 4. Run the cleaner again after the reboot and before proceeding with a new installation.

 

Item's to be aware of:

 

1. If the tool prompts you for a password and it's not accepting the password, then you will need to reboot the machine in "safe mode". After booting the machine in safe mode, Run Agent Cleaner tool again with "admin" rights.

Booting in safe mode will not prompt you for a password.

2. Always run the cleaner twice. Run the cleaner for the 1st time, reboot the machine, and run the cleaner again to remove all remaining objects that might prevent a new installation from completing successfully.
3. The cleaner tool only works for agent version below it's as well.
4. The cleaner tool is available in the above mentioned folder only in agent versions 8.7 and above.
