Symptom

  • SNMP reported value for memory usage higher than expected

Environment

  • PAN-OS
  • Platforms with shared hardware

Cause

The SNMP OID polled is returning the global memory usage.

The CPU and memory are shared by the DP and MP, it is expected to see a high memory as the processes running on DP are running permanently.

Resolution

Review accordingly the threshold on the network monitoring system to take this behavior in account when the monitored platform is sharing MP and DP resources.
