Symptom

Input devices such as scanner/USB/Keyboard generates garbage or random characters instead of actual data when using Prisma Browser .

Environment

  • Prisma Browser
  • Input devices (scanners/USB/Keyboard)

Cause

  • The Browser Security settings within your Prisma Access policy rules, specifically Protected Browse (Attack Surface Reduction), are designed to block certain input streams for security purposes.
  • This can interfere with how your scanner or other input devices send data to the browser, causing the scrambled values.

Resolution

To ensure your scanner or input device works correctly with Prisma Access,  the relevant policy rule need to be adjusted.

  1. Identify the Policy Rule: Find the specific policy rule that applies to the traffic flow for the users experiencing this issue.
  2. Enable Key Features: Within that policy rule, navigate to Browser Security > Protected Browse (Attack Surface Reduction) and make sure the following options are explicitly enabled:
    • JavaScript v8 JIT
    • WebGL API
    • WebSerial API
    • WebUSB API
    • WebHID API
    • Web Clipboard API
    • Keylogger Control (Windows users only; Mac users are not affected by this control)

By enabling these settings, the input devices can communicate properly with Prisma Browser.
