Panorama does not show up the versions of firewall image to be deployed under Device Deployment

Symptom


  • Software images need to be deployed on managed Firewalls.
  • The software version to be deployed is not shown under Device Deployment on Panorama

Environment


  • Panorama
  • Managed Firewalls
  • Supported PAN-OS

Cause


  • Panorama can only display the Firmware upto the version it is running.
  • As an example: When Panorama is on PAN-OS version 11.1.x, it will show firewall versions only until this major release under device deployment. 
  • The next versions of 11.2.x is not displayed.

    Resolution


    1. To upgrade the PAN-OS on managed firewall to a higher version, the Panorama must be upgraded first.
    2. Panorama must be on higher or equal version than of the managed Firewall.
    3. Panorama cannot manage the Firewall if the Firewall is on higher version than itself.
    4. Example: If the Panorama is on 11.1.x, and one wants the managed Firewall to be on 11.2.x, then Panorama must be upgraded to 11.2.x. After upgrade, the 11.2.x will be shown under device deployment.
