LFC interfaces are missing after manual slot restart on PA-7000

Symptom

  • Log Forwarding Card (LFC) inserted into slot 7 (on PA-7080) or slot 8 (PA-7050)
  • Administror restarts the LFC card using the command
    request chassis restart slot s7/s8
  • Now the expected LFC interfaces are not displayed (lfc1/9 and lfc1/10) in the show command.
    admin@PA-7050(active)> show interface all
    lfc1/1 10000/full/up 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/2 10000/full/up 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/3 10000/full/up 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/4 10000/full/up 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/5 10000/full/down(autoneg) 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/6 10000/full/down(autoneg) 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/7 10000/full/down(autoneg) 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00
    lfc1/8 10000/full/down(autoneg) 58:49:3b:fb:2a:00

Note: Although LFC is installed in slot 7 or 8, since this is the first LFC card the slot/port is denoted as "lfc1/x"

Environment

  • PA-7000 series firewall (7050 or 7080)
  • Supported PAN-OS
  • Log Forwarding Card (LFC) installed

Cause

  • Restarting the LFC during system runtime will result in the slot rebooting without its configuration being re-applied.
  • The LFC will boot back up but will be missing its configuration.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, perform a commit force:

admin@PA-7050(active)> configure
admin@PA-7050(active)# commit force
admin@PA-7050(active)# exit
