Commit fails with error "log-setting is invalid" after upload of device state on Firewall.

Symptom


commit fail error shows up after the device state file is uploaded to the firewall. 
 log-setting '*' is not a valid reference
 log-setting is invalid

Environment


  • PaloAlto Firewalls
  • Supported PAN-OS

Cause


The settings of "Enable Panorama Policy and Objects" and "Enable Device and Network Template" are disabled on the Firewall

Resolution


  1. Login to the firewall and navigate to GUI: Device > Setup > Management > Panorama Setting
  2. Click on the "Enable Panorama Policy and Objects" and "Device and Network Template".
  3. Re-import of the Device state on the Firewall.
  4. Commit the changes.
