Email Scheduler does not follow the Email Service Route

Symptom


  • Reports which are expected to be sent with Email Scheduler cannot be received.
  • Test Connection on Email Server, which can be attempted on Device  > Server Profiles > Email -> "$Profile" > "$MailServer" > Test Connection, works fine.
  • Send Test Email on Email Scheduler, which can be attempted on Monitor > PDF Reports > Email Scheduler > "Email Scheduler" > Send Test Email, does not work fine.
  • Following logs can be seen in mailclient.log (under var/log/pan of techsupport file)

Error: pan_smtp_fn(smtpclient_lib.c:1701): curl_easy_perform() failed: Timeout was reached

Environment


  • PANOS-10.2.8 later
  • Using Email Scheduler


Cause


Software issue.

Resolution


  1. The issue is resolved under PAN-242519 in PAN-OS 10.2.11, 11.0.4 and higher codes
  2. Upgrade to the fixed version will resolve the issue.
  3. As a workaround use the "Destination Service route" under GUI: Device > Setup > Services > Service Route Configuration > Customize > Destination (and specify the ip address)
