Symptom

  • PA-5450 interfaces 1/25 and 1/226 are getting powered down without logs.
  • These are the two 40/100 Gbps QSFP+/QSFP28 ports
  • These ports support breakout cables
  • When breakout cables are used, the following combination ports are as below and the breakout ports can be either 10 or 25 Gbps

Environment

  • PA-5450 and PA-5400 series
  • Breakout Ports

Cause

When breakout cable is used, the parent port is shown down.

Resolution

  1. When the child port is configured, through breakout, the parent port is not available for configuration.
  2. When using breakout ports on the PA-5400 series, only child ports or the parent ports are configurable but not both. Example: If port 25 is configured, then one cannot configure ports 5 - 8.
  3. When the breakout cable is used, brdagent process will configure the child ports in groups depending on the interfaces, i.e QSFP28 or QSFP+.
  4. Following are the ports on 5450
    • Ports 1 - 4: Four 1/10 Gbps ports
    • Ports 25 - 26: Two 40/100 Gbps QSFP+/QSFP28 ports
    • Ports 13 to 24: Twelve 1/10 Gbps SFP/SFP+ ports

Additional Information

The architecture of the PA-5400 series is similar to the PA-7000 series when it comes to parent-child port configuration.
