Symptom

  • When performing VM disk clone from CLI in order to expand disk size, process errors out with message -

>request system clone-system-disk target sdb
Error: Unsupported target disk size.   Disk size must be 60.0 GB

Environment

  • VM series
  • VMware

Cause

  • The command checker looks for exactly 60 GB in the target disk.  This is because the new partitions will be expanded up to 60 GB total.  For example, /opt/panlogs will be expanded with logs being copied to it as well There should be no loss in log data

Resolution

  1. Shut down the PA-VM and add the new disk under Edit Setting on VSphere Client Console

  2. Verify new disk is successful attached under /dev partition (i.e., 60GB)

  3. Execute request system clone-system-disk target <name of new disk> to clone the OS image to new disk (i.e., sdb)

  4. clone-system-disk command will trigger a restart and upon successful conversion you will receive the disk cloning procedure completed message in console

  5. Shut down the PA-VM to change the LUN ID. Remove the SCSI (0:0) allocation from Hard disk 1 (old)  And move Hard disk 2 (new) to first.

  6. Start the PA-VM to verify the normal operation.
