Message in syslog 'Device certificate expires in 15 or less days'

Symptom


  • System log (show log system) reports informational message " Device certificate expires in 15 or less days"
  • In the GUI: It is seen under Monitor > Logs > System

Environment


  • Palo Alto firewall and Panorama
  • PAN-OS 9.1.2 and above.

Cause


This message is normal to indicate the device certificate is expiring in 15 days. 

Resolution


  1. Make sure the firewall is able to connect to the update server (updates.paloaltonetworks.com).
  2. The device certificate will renew itself if there is no connectivity issue to the server.
