Question

GlobalProtect for Linux GUI App is installed on Ubuntu 20.04. Why does the Ubuntu AppIndicator not display the GP App tray icon?

Environment

GlobalProtect Linux GUI App
Ubuntu AppIndicator

Answer

The current version of the GP Linux GUI App (tested with 6.0.5) framework does not have support for Ubuntu AppIndicator.

As a workaround, try the following:

1. Open Ubuntu Software, search GNOME Tweaks and Install

2. Once GNOME Tweaks is installed, go to the GNOME extensions site https://extensions.gnome.org and install the GNOME Shell extension (if it's not already installed) by clicking the Click here to install browser extension hyperlink. Continue and Add the GNOME Shell extension

3. Once GNOME Shell is installed, search for TopIcons Plus, open it, and switch it ON to install it

4. Once TopIcons Plus is switched ON (install), you would see the GlobalProtect icon on the tray

5. Go to the Applications menu, search, and open Tweaks. Once opened, go to Extensions and click settings gear icon for the TopIcons Plus

6. You can adjust the icon settings like Tray horizontal alignment and Icon size
