Commit on Panorama fails with error: "You need to assign a default VSYS to current template first"

Symptom


  • When using only a single virtual-sys in the panorama and the firewall, vsys1 is configured as default.
  • But while selecting a single virtual-sys mode in the panorama, the virtual system tab under the device tab is not accessible.
  • When commit is issued with single VSYS, it fails with error: "You need to assign a default VSYS to current template first"

  • Using the dropdown to select "Multi-vsys", the "Virtual System" option is seen.

Environment


  • Any Panorama
  • PAN-OS 10.2.x
  • Multi Vsys configuration


Cause


The imported Firewall settings is configured for "multi vsys"

Resolution


  1. Select the "Device" tab on Panorama
  2. Under "mode" on the right side of device tab, Use the dropdown select "Multi-Vsys"
  3. Commit the configuration. The error message should not be seen anymore.
