Commit stuck at 70% after canceling commit process

Symptom


  • Commit fails with messager “Error: failed to modify obj for phase1 push: TIMEOUT
  • Commit could stuck at 70%
  • 'Pan-comm' process will keep crashing after each commit
  • Wildfire, dynamic update jobs install could fail due to auto commit of config failure.


Environment


  • Palo Alto Networks Firewall
  • Commit job
  • PAN-OS 9.1.14/10.1.6/10.2.2 or lower


Cause


Cancelled commit is not handled correctly.

Resolution


  1. Software fix via PAN-188338 is available in PAN-OS 9.1.15, 10.1.7, 10.2.3 and higher versions.
  2. The workaround is to Reboot firewall.
