Symptom

  • Port channel or aggregation created between Active/Passive PA firewall and Switch Stack (multiple switches)
For ex:
switch.png
  • One/more links are not bundling in AE group.
> show lacp aggregate-ethernet ae1
LACP:

******************************************************************************
AE group: ae1
Members: Bndl Rx state Mux state Sel state
ethernet1/10 no Current Detached Unselected(Negotiation failed)
  ethernet1/9 yes Current Tx_Rx Selected

  • l2ctrld.log (less mp-log l2ctrld.log) reports negotiation failed.
2023-01-01 05:10:30.393 +0100 log ethernet1/10 idx 25 leaves lag. sel state Unselected(Negotiation failed)

Environment

  • Active-Passive setup.
  • LACP configured with switch stack.

Cause

One of the possible reason for interface to not bundle in aggregate group is misconfigured Port Channel on the switch side.

Resolution

  1. Fix port channel config on the Switch. Refer to the documentation of the switch to enable the proper port channel (multi switch trunk etc).
  2. If the issue continues after fixing the switch configuration, contact support.
