System log displays "Master Alarm: Temperature" on a PA 5200 series firewall

Symptom
- System log (show log system) reports critical alerts as below
critical general general 0 Chassis Master Alarm: Cleared
critical general general 0 Chassis Master Alarm: Temperature
- ehmon.logs (less mp-log ehmon.log) display DP temperature being high
+0700 Sensor Alarm [True ]: DP0 Core = 85.200
+0700 Sensor Alarm [True ]: DP0 Core = 85.200
Environment
- Palo Alto PA-5200 series firewalls.
- Supported PAN-OS
- Alarms
Cause
Improper air flow due to clogged/dirty air filter.
Note: There are other reasons for high DP CPU as well. This article deals with the air filter problem.
Resolution
- Check physically for anything else that could obstruct the airflow.
- Inspect and replace the Air Intake filter. Refer 'Replace the Air Intake Filters on a PA-5200 Series Firewall'.
Additional Information
Palo Alto Networks recommends that you replace the filter every 6 months.
