Objective

  • Migrate VM-series Firewalls device with its licenses to new Virtualization infrastructure

Environment

  • Panorama VM
  • Bring Your Own License (BYOL)

Procedure

  • The steps are to deactivate the old VM and activate the licenses in the new VM including the transfer of configuration.
  • These steps are briefly outlined below.
  • If additional details are needed, open a support case.
Steps:
  1. Spin up the new firewalls on new Virtualization infrastructure.
  2. If the configuration needs to be migrated, Export the configuration from the old firewalls and import them in the new ones.
  3. If Panorama is used to manage the Firewall, export/import the device state instead of the configuration.
  4. Deactivate the old firewalls to release the licenses rom the Support Portal.
  5.  When the deactivation completes, Use the old Auth-Codes on the new Firewalls and license them.

Additional Information

Licenses are attached to the Authcode, after deactivating existing VM you can activate the same Auth code on new VM and it will get all licenses associated with Authcode.
