Question

Why is the "host-name" in HIP report from macOS devices changed after upgrading GlobalProtect App?

"host-name" parameter in HIP report from macOS devices is different between GP App version 6.1.1 and 6.1.2.
  • GP Client App 6.1.1 (or prior): Local Hostname
  • GP Client App 6.1.2: Computer Name

Environment

  • GlobalProtect App
  • macOS
  • Versions 6.x

Answer

  1. In order to make the name consistent across the products, "Computer Name" in macOS devices is used as host-name in HIP Reports (GPC-17831).
  2. Computer Name is used on the following versions of GlobalProtect App for macOS:
    • 6.0.7 or later
    • 6.1.2 or later
  3. This difference is expected due to the integration of the fix for GPC-17831.

Additional Information

Computer Name is also used as "host-name" in HIP report of GP App 6.0.7 though Local Hostname is used in the prior releases.
