Symptom

Cannot log in Vmware pa-vm after pan-os upgrade to 10.2.x

Bootup process ends at the vm login prompt and would not proceed to the hostname login prompt
Environment

Vmware pa-vm series
Cause

VSphere has Enhanced vMotion Compatibility enabled (EVC)
-
EVC baselining at vSphere level forced the VM/Pan-os to use old CPU architecture. It would cause the new pan-os 10.2.x and above code to freeze
Resolution
-
Remove the EVC configuration for the cluster or Vmware VM
