Symptom

  • The drive was replaced following the steps outlined in Replace a Drive on a PA-5200 Series Firewall
  • The disk was successfully mounted, and the data was copied over to the new drive.
  • The force command was used to compel the disk to become in sync.
  • Running the command show system raid details shows the disk status as: "Disk id Log2 Present, status: active sync".
  • However, the overall RAID status flags the error: "Disk Pair Log Failed Status Disk unmount failure; Logger is in use"

Environment

  • PA-5200 family
  • PAN-OS version 9.1.0 or above

Cause

The older partition remains linked to the log drive partition even after the disk replacement process has completed.

Resolution

  1. If you encounter the error "Disk Pair Log Failed Status Disk unmount failure; Logger is in use", after a drive replacement, it means the older partition was not properly unmounted by the system.
  2. Reboot the Firewall to resolve the issue.
