Why is the realtime web analysis feature of Advanced URL filtering not working

Question


When investigating URL filtering logs, there is no indication of an event getting forwarded to the Palo Alto Networks cloud for analysis

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewalls
  • PAN-OS 10.1 and below
  • Advanced URL filtering license

Answer


  1. The real time component of Advanced URL filtering can not be leveraged until PAN-OS 10.2 or above
  2. Once the firewall has been upgraded to 10.2, one can apply the required configuration as per the article on inline categorization.
  3. After upgrade and applying the required configuration changes, the real-time-detection category will be seen for traffic leveraging inline cloud categorization.
