Symptom


  • All dataplane (DP) interfaces are turned down and unable to process any traffic.
  • With DPDK enabled interfaces are down unless it is turned off.

Environment


  • PA-VM hosted on ESXi
  • PAN-OS 11.1.x and higher
  • ESXi version 8.0
  • vmx-15

 

Cause


All configured interfaces are not coming up when FW is created on ESXi 8.0.3, ESXi 7.0 and ESXi 6.0.7 servers with vmx-15

Resolution


  1. The following settings to be configured on the ESXI under Advanced Parameters.
  2. The values are to be added under Parameter and Values
    1. vmxnet3.serialNumberV2 = FALSE
    2. vmxnet3.rev.30 = FALSE
  3. Once done Reboot the firewalls.
  4. Post reboot, all the DP interfaces should be up and DPDK can stay enabled
