Firewall reboots with log 'Out of memory condition detected, kill process <proc-id>' message in the System logs

Symptom


  • Unexpected firewall reboot
  • show system files cli command shows all_task crash files 
  • less mp-log dp-monitor shows the logs similar to below with high pantask process usage during issue time matching with OOM logs.

  • System logs (less mp-log system.log) display out of memory issues

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewalls
  • PAN-OS 11.0.7, 11.2.0, 11.1.4, 10.2.10, 10.1.14


Cause


Software Issue.



Resolution


  1. Thee issue is fixed under PAN-259480.
  2. Upgrade the PANOS to one of the following versions:
    • 11.2.3, 11.1.5, 10.1.16, 10.2.14
  3. Some versions also have the hotfixes. If needed, contact TAC.
