Symptom

  • Root partition usage keeps exceeding the threshold.
  • Aggressive-cleaning is enabled, but still it does not help.
  • The usage is not changed after running disk-usage cleanup commands or without any core files.

Environment

  • Next-Generation Firewalls
  • PAN-OS 10.2 and later

Cause

  • One of the reason is due to the storage of  some log files in /tmp/DT/logs directory.
  • This directory is used by generating Device Telemetry bundle package, and the contains logs are the copy of the logs under /var/log/pan.
  • Since this directory is out-of-scope of Aggressive cleaning or other cleanup commands, the usage remains high.

Resolution

  1. The issue is resolved under PAN-256223 in 10.2.11, 11.1.5, 11.2.3 and higher version.
  2. Upgrade to the fixed versions will resolve the issue.
  3. For workaround, contact Support to get the logs removed after disable of Device Telemetry.
