Symptom

  • Panorama vCPU load jumped high up to 20 in >show system resources follow CLI command after VMware snapshot.
  • Java process cpu utilization high up to 600% even with no logging rate or any activity.
  • This causes Web UI and CLI slowness.

Environment

  • VM Panorama
  • Supported PAN-OS
  • VMware snapshot

Cause

VMware snapshot IO quiescing corrupts PAN-OS and Panorama.

Resolution

  1. Quiesced Snapshot is not supported on Panorama VM instance.
  2. Reverting back to the snapshot of the day before issue occurred fixes the problem.
  3. This procedure can take hours depending on the size of VM.
  4. Then snapshot needs to be disabled for the VM.
