Error message: "panCmsHandleDeviceContextReq: getRemoteContent() got response code 404" when trying to context switch to a firewall from Panorama

Symptom


  • On the Panorama UI trying to switch context  to a managed firewall causes the following error message to be displayed "panCmsHandleDeviceContextReq: getRemoteContent() got response code 404"
  • Config pushes to that same firewall will fail

Environment


  • Panorama M-500 device
  • Managed Palo Alto Firewall
  • PAN-OS 9.0.5
Note: Other Panorama devices may also see the error message when Firewall Root partition is full.

Cause


Root partition is maxed out on the managed firewall.

Resolution


Free up disk space on the managed firewall. Refer to "How to clear disk space on the root partition"
