Dynamic Update installation fails with error "Failed to get the content version from the image filename during validity check."

Symptom


Dynamic Update installation fails with the following error message: 
Failed to get the content version from the image filename during validity check. Please use the 
'skip-content-validity-check' if you want to force the content install by skipping content validation.

 

Environment


  • Palo Alto Firewall.
  • Any PAN-OS.
  • Dynamic Updates (content update).

Resolution


  1. Remove all of the content updates under GUI: Device > Dynamic Updates by pressing the 'X' button on the right side of each version.
  2. Press the "check now" button.
  3. Re-download and install the desired version.
