Question
How is the best path selected in real time, assuming the following scenarios?
Answer
1. Site A and Site B have MPLS and internet. Both have SD-WAN appliances. Site A initiates a video call with Site B. How do you select the ‘best’ link at site A?
2. Site A and Site B have dual internet links. Both have SD-WAN appliances. Site A initiates a video call with Site B. How do you select the ‘best’ link at site A?
3. Site A has MPLS and internet. Users are accessing Office 365. How do you select the ‘best’ link?
4. Site A has dual internet links. Users are accessing Office 365. How do you select the ‘best’ link?
5. Site A has dual internet links. Users are accessing AWS. How do you select the ‘best’ link?
Does your answer to (e) change if you have an SD-WAN appliance deployed in AWS, assuming you
have that capability?
For items (a) through (e) above, path selection logic is as follows:
· What is allowed by path policy.
· What is allowed by security policy.
· Layer 3 reachability.
· Layer 7 reachability for the given application.
· Round Trip available bandwidth.
· Application performance metrics such as MOS, Transaction Error Rate, and Transaction Time.
Regardless of the path, CloudGenix will choose the path that gives you best performance that iswithin policy. For AWS applications, path selection logic is the same, with or without an SD-WAN appliance deployed in the cloud. The only difference is that without the appliance, we will not createan overlay VPN.
