Objective

To check Disk Mount count from Root to determine if RAID log disks check will be performed on next reboot.

Environment

  • Palo Alto 5200, 5400 or 7K Firewalls (one with logging disk)
  • PAN-OS above 10.1.x.
  • RAID Disk
  • FSCK (File System Consistency Check)

Procedure

  1. Check the raid.log
admin@PA-5250-1(active)> less mp-log raid.log
  1. The logs will display "Log has been mounted 8 times" or "check after next mount" or similar  indicating the next boot will run FSCK check.
DEBUG: Log: clean, 763125/122101760 files, 46764506/488378368 blocks (check in 2 mounts)
OR
DEBUG: Log: clean, 386203/122101760 files, 9828092/488378368 blocks (check after next mount)
OR
Sep 30 19:57:12 DEBUG: Log has been mounted 8 times without being checked, check forced.

Additional Information

  • FSCK checks are performed to correct any problems seen so that there is data consistency between drives and there is a minimization of the inability to read data that is written to the disks.
  • The duration of the FSCK check will vary depending on the condition of any issues that are found.
  • It is not currently possible to override the scheduled checks.
  • Any attempt to bypass this function would risk logging data integrity.

Note: The “RAID log disks check in progress, please wait” message refers to the FSCK check process being performed on the RAID log disks. It does not necessarily reflect that the RAID disks are being rebuilt.
