PAN-OS upgrade from 10.1.4x or higher fails on PA-5450

Symptom


  • PAN-OS upgrade from 10.1.4.x or higher fails on PA-5450.
  • In the GUI / CLI the progress stops at values between 27% to 71%.
  • Then the firewall reboots running again to older version.

Environment


  • Palo Alto 5450 Firewalls
  • PANOS-10.1.4x and higher
  • Software Update

Cause


The 'maint' filesystem get corrupted during upgrade.

Resolution


  1. The issue is fixed under PAN-199738 in 10.1.10, 10.2.4, 11.0.1.
  2. Upgrade to the above versions or higher will resolve the issue.
